“Those are fighting words.”

Sometimes you hear something that hits you the wrong way. It makes you want to scream and throat punch the person who said it . It sets you off. Your adrenaline gets flowing and it’s game on.

What if “fighting words” were actually a good thing? Something that was looked at in a positive light, instead of a negative? I believe they can be.

In the spiritual realm, we need fighting words. Battles, fights, oppositions, wars, (whatever you want to refer to them as), occur all the time. The enemy is constantly on alert seeking someone to devour. He ready to kill, steal, and destroy. He is looking for a warrior who is growing weak, tired, and worn down. And that can be any of us at any time if we try to fight alone.

A believer’s fight words are not said to start a fight with an enemy. We use our fight words when the battle is already raging. Our fight words aren’t meant to start the fight, they are meant to finish it.

Our fight words aren’t anger infused jabs. They have power. As believers, our fight words are Spirit infused, based on the word of God. They are filled with His power and used as a weapon (Hebrews 4:12, 2 Corinthians 10:3-4, & Ephesians 6:10-18).

When we fight the enemy, we can’t do it in our own power. We need the power of God. He is the only one able to defeat our enemy. That’s why our fighting words are so important. When we speak His name and when we speak His word, we are fighting with real power. Power the enemy cannot defeat.

So go ahead and speak fighting words when you are in the midst of a struggle with the enemy. It won’t start the fight it will finish it.

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-4, NASB

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:10-11,

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12, NASB
