Forgive.

Forgive us when we’ve come to Your house without reverence. Forgive when we’ve come in our sin. Forgive when we come for a blessing instead to offer worship. Forgive us when we come for ourselves alone, and not for You.

Forgive when we pretend, afraid to reveal ourself. Forgive when we mock calamity but fail to lift a hand in aid. Forgive when we refuse to serve others, but expect someone to serve us. Forgive us when we come for ourselves alone, and not for You.

Forgive when we fail to believe Your Word. Forgive when we reject Your message. Forgive when we choose to disobey, but expect things to be different. Forgive us when we come for ourselves alone, and not for You.

Forgive when our worship is worthless. Forgive when our praise is pathetic. Forgive when we view You as human and assign You attributes that belong to fallen man. Forgive us when we come for ourselves alone, and not for You.

Forgive us when we make worship a show instead of an altar. Forgive when we make service about us and not You. Forgive when we let emotions and feelings dictate our beliefs. Forgive us when we come for ourselves alone, and not for you.

Oh, how we have failed. How I have failed. We’ve forgotten the sacrifice You made. We’ve walked on Your heart. We’ve turned service into self-serving. We’ve turned faith into fear. We’ve made prayer into our wish list. We’ve turned mission into misshapen vision. God, forgive us. God, forgive me.

And in forgiveness, remind us of Your love. Remind us of the price You paid. Remind us of Your beauty. Remind us of Your grace. Remind us of who we are and who we are meant to be. Break our hearts with the things that break Your heart. God, remind us…

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.” ~ Ephesians 1:7, NASB
