Vision is something powerful.

I’m not just talking about the ability to see what is in front of you. I am talking about a vision for the future. I am talking about a vision for where your life could be.

Don’t get confused that this is talking about material things – a career, bigger house, fancier car. I am strictly speaking of vision for your spiritual life and journey.

It’s something we don’t often consider…or at least not enough. It is easier to get trapped by the materialism of the world and focus on our personal wealth, 401K, and our future bankrolling ability.

Saving for the future, protecting your family, investing in your children’s future…those are not bad things unless they become the main thing. And in uncertain times, like we have recently faced, I understand the pull to focus on our livelihood and providing for our families. Yet, we must never forget that this life is temporary and temporal things will pass away. Only the eternal is forever.

So, what type of vision do you have for your spiritual life? How many people do you want to share Christ with this year? How much Scripture do you want to memorize? What type of spiritual activities do you want to participate in? How many people do you want to disciple? What areas of spiritual growth do you want to see? Where do you want to invest spiritually?

We make resolutions and goal charts at the start of every new year and focus on our health, relationships, and finances. Why not focus on the thing that is guaranteed to bring eternal dividends and rewards?

It makes perfect sense to me. 2020 was a bust for a lot of people. But if life on earth is temporal, then let’s spend our energy elsewhere. Let’s focus on what really matters, the eternal.
