The idol life – Filling the void.

The ground soaks up the sunshine and the rain. The grass grows in beauty and splendor. The wind brushes through the trees. The raven calls.

The silence is deafening so creation fills the void.

We are busy. Constantly moving. Constantly observing, talking, and rarely listening…

The silence is deafening so creation fills the void.

Why can’t we hear Him? Why is He not speaking?

We are too busy. Constantly moving. Constantly observing, talking, and rarely listening…

Does He speak? What is He saying?

We are too busy. We don’t slow down. We don’t stop. We don’t open His letter. We don’t read it. We want microwave answers, microwave fixes, microwave everything. Quick. No effort. Make it fulfilling but without effort, work, or time.

And we begin to think we are forgotten. We begin to believe He is not there. We begin to believe He does not care. If He did He would speak. He would answer.

We are too busy. We don’t slow down. We don’t stop. We don’t listen. We long for His voice but are unwilling to wait for it. Unwilling to read what He says. Unwilling to sit with Him. Unwilling to put Him first.

And so we find Him last. He waits. He is patient. He calls. He beckons.

We are too busy. We don’t slow down. We don’t stop. We refuse to listen. We refuse to obey.

And we wonder what happened. We wonder where He went. We wonder why life falls apart.

We are too busy placing ourselves first. We don’t slow down. We have bowed to the idols of our desires. We have given ourselves over to false gods, whims, lusts, pleasures that can never fulfill.

And we wonder what happened. We wonder where He went. We wonder why life falls apart.

We are too busy.

We must slow down.

We must open the letter of His word.

We must listen.

And it starts with removing the idols we have set up in our lives.
