No other name.

Names. There is a lot of power in a name. At birth we are given a name by our parents. Often it is of some importance – a family name, a name with special meaning, or a name that has been thought about and debated over for months.

As we grow up and go to school, we find that those around us may give us different names. A nickname, perhaps, meant to bring familiarity to a relationship. Maybe a name by those who like to bully that is meant to cause pain. We may get called names that stick with us mentally and emotionally for a long period of time.

Regardless, the point is that there is a lot of power in a name.

There is one name, however, that holds more power than any other. It is a name that has brought controversy to the world. It is the name of Jesus.

Acts 4:12 says, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

Romans 10:9, “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

The name of Jesus holds the power to save. It is the only name we can call on for salvation. We can’t call on anyone else. No other name, but the name of Jesus, is capable of bringing salvation.

Why? Because no one else can fulfill the requirements. Jesus is the Son of God, perfect, without sin. He fulfilled the wrath of God by taking on our sin and offering Himself as a perfect and spotless sacrifice.

We needed a Savior and God provided one – His Son, fully man and fully God. Despite what others say, there is only one way to God and it is through His Son. He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one can come to God except through Him and His sacrifice (John 14:6).
