The truth is, it’s never been about me…or you.
We sort of live like it is though. We put everything through the lens of “us.”
We choose our church based on how we feel: Did we like it? Did the music minister to us? Did the preacher preach like we like? We’re we greeting and welcomed in ways we wanted? We’re they nice to me?
We read Scripture the same way. “What does this mean to me? What do I get out of this? How does this make me feel?
What if Christianity is not about us? What if it’s not about me?
What is if is all about Him? What if we are so focused on ourselves that we are missing Him? I think it is possible that we could be.
I get caught up with my life, my thoughts, my feelings, my emotions so often that I fail to realize Christ.
Sometimes the pain, the difficulties that I experience, are not about me at all. It is about Him working through those difficulties to bring about change. It involves me, but the focus isn’t about me. The focus is about a bigger picture, a greater landscape. Nope, not everything is about me.
So, how do we change our mindset to get it off ourselves and what we are suffering in order to pull back and realize there is a greater movement happening? It isn’t about my experience of pain. It’s about what God is doing around me and inviting me to be involved in. Or, perhaps, how He is working through my difficulties to invite others in to a greater work.
Greater yet, is the possibility that the pain, the difficulty, that I am going through is His way of growing me to become more like Him.
When we stop and consider that our difficulties have a bigger meaning, it gives us hope. We can have hope that God is in the midst of them. He is doing something! He is working through our situation, or through us. And that, my friend, should get our minds off us and our situation and put it squarely on the majesty of God.
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18
